Holiday Recipes: 4 Easy Hot Cocoa Recipes

Whether you’re home for the holidays this Christmas or enjoying your holiday at the campground a cup of hot cocoa always hits the spot.  This season, you’ll love these  easy holiday recipes that will make everyone’s taste buds dance!  So, load up your Forest River Cedar Creek Hathaway Edition fifth wheel from Quietwoods RV, gather some ingredients, and enjoy a wonderful celebration wherever you are.

Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Hot cocoa recipe is based on the Creamy Hot Cocoa Recipe from Allrecipes.com and has been modified. 

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half-and-half cream
  • whipped cream
  • marshmallows
  • 8 peppermint sticks or candy canes

Instructions:

  1. Bring your water to a boil in a small saucepan
  2. Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  3. Slowly pour in the boiling water while stirring.
  4. Simmer for two minutes, careful not to burn the cocoa.
  5. Slowly stir in the milk and tour peppermint sticks. Heat until steaming, but do not allow to boil.
  6. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  7. Divide into four mugs and top with the cream, whipped cream or marshmallows, and a peppermint stick in each.

Strawberry Hot Cocoa

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half-and-half cream
  • whipped cream
  • strawberry marshmallows
  • 2 oz of freeze dried strawberries
  • 4 fresh strawberries

Instructions:

  1. Start by blending your strawberries in a food processor until they are reduced to a fine powder.
  2. Repeat steps #1 – #4 of the previous recipe.
  3. Slowly stir in the milk and strawberry powder. Heat until steaming, but do not allow to boil.
  4. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  5. Divide into four mugs and top with the cream, whipped cream or marshmallows, and a strawberry on the rim of each cup.

Pro Tip: For added cheer, make your strawberry garnish a chocolate covered strawberry instead!

Cinnamon Spice Hot Cocoa

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half-and-half cream
  • whipped cream
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

  1. Repeat steps #1 – #4 of the previous recipes.
  2. Slowly stir in the milk. Heat until steaming, but do not allow to boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Divide into four mugs and top with the cream, whipped cream, and a cinnamon stick stick in each.

Cinnamon Spice Cocoa

Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half-and-half cream
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • dark chocolate shavings

Instructions:

  1. Repeat steps #1 – #4 of the previous recipes.
  2. Slowly stir in the milk and dark chocolate chips. Heat until steaming and the chocolate is melted, but do not allow to boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. Divide into four mugs and top with the cream and dark chocolate shavings.
